Tree damage and aging architectural shingles in Allendale

Allendale village streets are lined with trees, and many houses wear architectural shingles that are old enough to look tired. A limb strike and a worn-out roof need different work.

Map the strike
Broken branches, a crease in one slope, and granules only under that area point to impact. If the opposite slope is in the same condition, you are looking at age, not the storm. Insurers ask for that distinction. Photograph both slopes.

The overlay mat can crack while the roof still looks thick from the street. Bend a tab only if you are the person who will pay to replace it. From the ground, look for dark patches where granules are gone and for tabs that cup.
Repair the strike, plan the age
A sound roof with one damaged area is a repair plus a note about remaining life. A roof with bare mats on more than one plane is a replacement conversation. Do not let a storm claim become a full roof if the photos do not support it, and do not ignore a failing roof because the claim was denied.
