Standing-seam metal is a real option on some Bergen custom homes and a poor fit on a village street that is supposed to keep a shingle or slate look. The choice is detailing and appearance, not a trend.

Low-slope porches, long simple planes, and owners who want a specific look can be good candidates. The underlayment and the clip or fastener system matter more than the brochure color. Snow sliding off a metal roof needs a plan for doors and walks.

Wide flat pans can show waviness. That is often cosmetic. Ask to see a finished plane in daylight, not a sample chip. Rain noise depends on the deck and the insulation under it. Do not promise silence.

A historic or village street may not want a bright metal roof. Confirm that with the municipal office before you order panels. Metal also needs skilled flashing at chimneys. A shingle crew’s step flashing details do not automatically transfer.
