What the final roof inspection checks before you accept the job as complete

Written by Ultra Power Construction. The credentials page states that this contractor is licensed and insured in New Jersey and lists GAF and Owens Corning programs. Updated 2026-09-28.

Chatham, Summit, and Millburn homeowners should walk the completed roof job—or review clear photos—before final payment. The decision is what the inspection must confirm: fastening, flashing, cleanup, and that every line on the estimate actually appears on the house.

Match the finished work to the written scope

Ridge vent length, drip edge, pipe boots, and chimney metal should match what you signed. If a line is missing on the roof, it is not complete.

Look at edges, valleys, and penetrations first

Those details fail before the open field does. Check for lifted tabs, open step flashing, and debris in valleys before you look at the shingle color from the street.

Cleanup and attic checks close the job

Magnets should have pulled nails from the lawn and beds. From the attic, look for daylight at penetrations and confirm baffles were not crushed. A Summit or Millburn job is not done while nails remain in the yard.

FAQ

Guide FAQ

Is this page a price for my house?

No. It explains a decision on a written roofing scope. Ultra Power Construction prepares a free written estimate after an on-roof inspection. This article is not a bid.

Should I climb on the new roof myself?

Only if you are safe doing so. Many owners review contractor photos and a ground-level walk of eaves, gutters, and landscaping instead.

When is final payment appropriate?

After the scope items are verified, debris is cleared, and any punch-list flashing or boot issues are fixed. Hold retainage only as your contract allows.
