Northern Valley roofs in Norwood: ice dams and aging shingles

Norwood colonials see the same Northern Valley cold as their neighbors, but the useful checklist is the typical two-story colonial: eaves over the wall, a few pipe boots, and a ridge that may not be venting.

Walk the eave line in the attic
Staining on the roof deck just above the wall plate is the ice-dam signature. Staining around a boot is a different leak. Mark which one you have before anyone sells a full replacement.
Aging shingles are a separate column
Granule piles in the gutter, tabs that no longer lie flat, and exposed fiberglass are end-of-life signs. They can exist on a roof that also dams. The scope can include both a tear-off and an eave membrane. It should not pretend one causes the other.
Write the colonial, not the county
State the approximate squares, the number of layers, the eave membrane distance, and whether ridge ventilation exists. Those four lines make this estimate comparable. The county ice-dam article explains the science.
