Slate and designer shingles on Short Hills homes

Short Hills is the clearest luxury housing stock outside Bergen County on this list. Many roofs are slate or a heavy designer shingle. The building department is Millburn Township’s, not a Bergen borough’s.

Use the same repair-versus-relay test as the Bergen slate guide: sound field and deck can be repaired; widespread slippage means a relay. Do not overlay slate. The metal at chimneys is part of the job.

Large colonials here often use a thick laminate. Pick it after tear-off layers and flashing are known. A Bergen colonial scope is a useful checklist, not a price you can carry across the county line.
