Many Franklin Lakes colonials were built with large roofs, several skylights, and a designer architectural shingle. The number moves with squares, penetrations, and pitch, not with the town.

Skylights, pipe boots, exhaust caps, and dormers are the leak inventory. A thicker luxury shingle does not flash a skylight. The scope should list each opening and whether the skylight stays or goes.

Heavier laminated shingles can mimic shake or slate from the curb. They still need the right starter, hip-and-ridge, and ventilation. Choose the profile after the deck and the flashing plan are known.
Large roofs hide layer count
A 1990s roof may already be a second layer, or it may be the original. Tear-off weight and dumpsters follow that fact. Write the layer count you verified, including any low-slope porch that is a different system.
